Route Accounting

Everyone’s favorite ice cream

In 1999, Blue Bell Creameries asked The OMT Group (OMT) to create and install a new custom Route Accounting System for ice cream delivery trucks. Blue Bell is ranked as one of the top three ice cream companies in sales in the United States. OMT worked with the Blue Bell Creameries staff to design a new system that would use existing hardware, provide quicker user response, eliminate system lockups, create an intuitive system navigation scheme and provide a DEX/UCS interface.

OMT designed, coded and tested Blue Bell’s new application; and then trained branch personnel and route drivers. The new system was installed on more than 700 trucks located across 35 distribution centers and 14 states before the end of December 1999.

7-UP Bottling

7-UP Bottling of San Francisco came to The OMT Group (OMT) after a handheld implementation failed due to major software and support problems. OMT analyzed the situation. Starting with an existing OMT route accounting solution, the developers made modifications for 7-UP’s operations as needed and put 7-UP’s sales and delivery trucks back on the street with an automated system.

Besides having a system that worked, 7-UP retained its investment in current mobile computer hardware and did not have to change its Unix-based host systems.

Since the initial installation, 7-UP has asked for many new features to improve operations and save time. Several daily route delivery schedule reports that had previously been created manually using spreadsheets are now automatically generated by the new system.

OMT believes that information systems are works in progress and only stop changing when people run out of ideas on how to make them better.

Enhanced delivery for dairies

Robinson Dairy, a Denver-based dairy that services Eastern Colorado, turned to The OMT Group to move the functionality of its old automated route accounting system to a new mobile handheld platform.

Because of OMT’s experience in serving both the dairy industry and working with Robinson’s old and new hardware, the migration was made on time and within budget.

The OMT Group brings experience to the project!
